How a day off work early, lead to an adventure toward the end of the world!
As a travel therapist, my hours can vary. So on Wednesday when I got off early, I knew immediately I had to go exploring this new region with Rusty! One problem, I had not planned anything! But a fun fact about me....that does not stop me. After a quick Google Maps search for "parks", I stumbled upon a place called World's End in Hingham, MA. The name intrigued me, so I was hooked. I quite often find places last minute from searching on Google Maps, and the best part is that there is usually a link attached that will take you to the appropriate site for in depth details. This is my first go-to for quickly finding out if dogs are allowed. Because lets face it, I'm not going if Rusty is not welcome.
So, an hour commute later through the thick Boston traffic, I arrive! From my quick pre-search, I had seen that it cost $6 to enter for non-members the park. Definitely a price I am willing to pay for a beautiful hike! Upon arriving, there was a check-in station to pay, and I had the pleasure of talking with a lady who gave me tips on the best route to take for the best views. One of the many perks of being an out-of-towner, people are usually more inclined to share tips for their favorite local spot because they are just as excited that a non-local found "their place"!
So here is where the plot thickens...I didn't check the weather. I rarely do. I had barely been home for 5 minutes before packing up Rusty and heading the World's End. I kid you not, 3 minutes into the hike, a sprinkle started. Poor Rusty does NOT like rain. He was a trooper. We sat under a tree for about an hour enjoying the sights and sounds of the rain while relatively staying dry. I decided to wait it out because frankly, it cost money to enter this place! And I am so glad I waited.
After the storm passed, the clouds created a picture that was so beautiful with the sun peeking through. What went from being a fairly busy park, turned out to be just me and one other couple. So we basically had the whole 4.5 miles of trails to ourselves! Sometimes plans turn south, but this was not the case. From what I thought was a huge mistake with the storm quickly rolling in, ended up turning into one of the most peaceful locations I have found thus far in Massachusetts. You never know what a spontaneous trip might become!
